Sodium Laurel Sulfate and Sodium Laureth Sulfate are petrochemical surfactants, making them non-renewable resources adding to your carbon footprint.
- Plant-based surfactants are made from renewable resources.
- Products containing SLS can be irritating and drying to your skin and scalp.
- SLS-free products can often reduce the need to apply a moisturiser to your body as you’re not drying you skin with harsh detergents in the first place - saving you time and money.
- SLS is used in products because it’s cheap - not because it’s the best cleanser - demand quality and value for your hard earned money!
- Sensitive and irritable skin can be soothed by using plant-based cleansers. Helping to reduce outbreaks of eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis.
- The more of us that use these products on a regular basis means that more companies will see the need to produce products without SLS and SLES - it’s simple supply and demand.

One of my favourite blogs ’so you wannabee a domestik goddess’ posted this fabulous satirical commercial for Mom Jeans by the Saturday Night Live crew and I just had to share it because it made me laugh so much! Y’know, those tragic high waisted jeans (gasp, they seem to be back in fashion too!) that make your butt look huge. Hello, it’s 1983 calling - they want their jeans back.
If you like Gorgeous Things then you’ll most certainly get a kick out of Jen’s blog.
Thanks Jen, you’ve made my day!

Some mornings all I get time for is black coffee - perhaps you’re the same? I find by
10am I’m starting to feel a bit delirious and start looking for either more coffee or something to give me that quick pick me up. Usually something questionable in it’s nutritional value like Banana Bread - I even tried to fool myself that I’m not having a piece of cake by putting butter on it - because it’s bread, right?
Anyway, I decided to come up with a better solution to my Banana Bread addiction before my jeans staged an intervention. Read the rest of this entry »

Why did I go to the Beauty Expo? To check out all the new and improved beauty treatments there are out there - so that I can tell you all about what’s going to be showing up next at your local beauty clinic and let you know whether it’s any good. What I mean by any good is whether or not they measure up by the Gorgeous Things standards, our core values of -
- style & substance
- continuing education
- natural approach first
- nurture yourself & others
- nurture the planet
Firstly, there was a hell of a lot of style and not so much substance - the glimmer of light here was Brett Pattinson from ‘bod’ who gave a seminar on the future of natural products and organics in the beauty industry. It was great to hear that as the cosmetics industry stagnates in growth, the organics industry powers ahead with over 20% growth per year. This means for you - more great products, more readily available.
On the topic of continuing education - the funniest moment of the expo for me was when a male model in his early twenties sauntered up to me and offered me a voucher for $100 off my first Botox treatment - to see it’s amazing benefits! This seemed wrong to me on so many levels, but mostly it just made me laugh - the cheek of him! Read the rest of this entry »

- Go for a walk in your lunch break. Especially if you work in air conditioning - fresh air for even 15 minutes will help clear your head. We always wonder how French women stay so slim - they walk whenever they get the chance.
- Always have a bottle of Champagne in the fridge. Celebrate events and accomplishments no matter how small. Well of course this had to be in here somewhere as Gorgeous Things takes it’s name from an episode of ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ so where would we be without “Champers Pats..?” Read the rest of this entry »

Every Thursday we’re going to ask the big questions here on the Gorgeous Things blog. Hard hitting stuff like - what would you do if you didn’t have to work, what’s the most you’ve ever won on the lottery, your favourite cocktail, would your man ever get a Brazilian (just thought I’d slip that one in there as I’ve been told it’s becoming quite popular, just wait until David Beckham gets one…if he hasn’t already), or even what’s your perfect Sunday?
So, today’s question is -
