Guilty Pleasures

If you loved ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ or you’re a fan of Linda LaPlante or Jilly Cooper or you’re Tasmina Perry's latest book Guilty Pleasuresthe kind of gal who likes to kick back on a Saturday afternoon with a pre-dinner Long Island Iced Tea (or is that just me?) and a stack of trashy mags then this is the book for you!

Guilty Pleasures by Tasmina Perry is set in the fashion world between London, Paris and New York (is there a better combination) and is the story of a family whose members will stop at nothing to get their hands on the family fortune. The Daily Mirror in the UK cheekily described Guilty Pleasures as a ‘Bonkbuster’ and I have to agree – it’s peppered with titillating scenes that seem completely plausible and appropriate, considering the characters and setting.

Underneath it’s external layer of glamour, fashion, sex and Machiavellian plotting – Guilty Pleasures has well developed characters that although their lifestyles are incomprehensible, their more human characteristics make you care about their fate. I even found myself cheering for Cassandra, the tough but flawed fashion magazine editor who believes with her style and connections, she’s the rightful heir to the family Luxury Goods business – rather than her ‘off the rack’ Management Consultant cousin Emma.

Guilty Pleasures is a fun, easy read that’s perfect for your next weekend away, international flight or a week of escapism on the train while you commute. Wherever you read it though, just remember if there’s people near by – they may be wondering what you’re grinning about. Guilty Pleasures by Tasmina Perry is the most appropriately named book this year.

Available from all good bookstores from July 1st.

Sensitive Skin Needs Gentle Care & Protection

Everytime Gorgeous Things is involved in any kind of Wellbeing or MindBodySpirit Fair or Festival I’m always overwhelmed by the number of lovely ladies (& sometimes even gorgeous guys) who come up & tell me their story about living with Eczema, Psoriasis or Dermatitis.

One gorgeous girl I met at a recent event in Sydney brought a tear to my eye as she reluctantly showed me her hands covered in Eczema. She was so embarrassed about her hands & the thought of having to shake hands with anyone freaked her out completely. Her career meant she was under constant stress & very often in the public eye. It really took me back to how I’d previously felt & as I looked down at my hands with my now soft & blemish free skin a wave emotion hit me. She was me 5 years ago.

So, with that in mind I’d like to share with you the 4 things you can do today to protect your Sensitive Skin.

  1. Think Holistically – your diet, stress levels, irritants (like conventional cleaning products & harsh cleansers) & environmental factors all combine to weaken your resilience; making you more prone to outbreaks.
  2. Remove Chemical Nasties from your life. If you need help with identifying these just hit the Gorgeous Things website or click on the ‘Chemical Nasties’ category of this blog for more information. There’s no point to just buying a Soap-Free Hand Wash when you then go and wash your hair with chemical laden Shampoo or clean your home with with several of the scary concoctions under your sink. All of these are affecting your skin as they are all absorbed directly in your bloodsream.
  3. Quality Hand Cream will provide a great barrier for your skin & will also help prevent premature ageing. Try Gorgeous Things Virgin Blend Hand Therapy
  4. Wear Gloves when you’re in the Garden or Moving Furniture or doing any thing that can cause stress to your skin.

Enjoy taking good care of your Sensitive Skin & you’ll find you’ll have less & less outbreaks.

Gorgeous Things thinks Gorgeously Green is the most important book to be published this year…well, maybe the new Tim Winton is kind of important too but Gorgeously Green is important is the ‘saving the planet’ kind of way whereas Tim Winton is important in the ‘being very clever with words’ kind of way. Sorry ladies…having a bit of a Bridget Jones moment. You know what we mean.
