Lesley-Ann Trow wears the infamous Toilet Paper Dress

The Toilet Paper Entrepreneur by Mike MichalowiczIn September we celebrated the release of US entrepreneur Mike Michalowicz’s new book The Toilet Paper Entrepreneur. Gorgeous Things was featured in the book, as well as many other inspiring stories and since then the book’s gone on to sell tonnes of copies worldwide.

I celebrated by making a dress from toilet paper, which Mike is featuring today on the TPE Blog – Check it out!

Mike’s book The Toilet Paper Entrepreneur is the kick in the pants that we all need to make us realise that our dreams wont come true if we sit around just dreaming…we have to act! In his book, Mike shows you how to take action, to start that business you’ve dreamt up and grow it into a giant in a sustainable way.

Why work in a bookshop when you could start your own publishing company!?

Rosewater & Soda Bread by Marsha Mehran

Rosewater & Soda Bread Book by Marsha MehranRosewater & Soda Bread by Marsha Mehran

Reviewed by Gabrielle Sutton

I read this book over a long weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it.  The author, Marsha Mehran is Iranian and has lived in Iran, Argentina, Australia, Ireland and North America and this novel draws on her experiences.

It centers around three Iranian sisters who run a café in a small Irish town.  It is beautifully layered story about the people who live in the town and has a distinctive multicultural flavour.    Mehran has a gift in character development and you begin to feel as though you a member of the community and feel all the outrage, warmth and intrigue as the story unfolds.

I will definitely be handing this book onto my friends, and reading Mehran’s first novel Pomegranate Soup.

Guilty Pleasures

If you loved ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ or you’re a fan of Linda LaPlante or Jilly Cooper or you’re Tasmina Perry's latest book Guilty Pleasuresthe kind of gal who likes to kick back on a Saturday afternoon with a pre-dinner Long Island Iced Tea (or is that just me?) and a stack of trashy mags then this is the book for you!

Guilty Pleasures by Tasmina Perry is set in the fashion world between London, Paris and New York (is there a better combination) and is the story of a family whose members will stop at nothing to get their hands on the family fortune. The Daily Mirror in the UK cheekily described Guilty Pleasures as a ‘Bonkbuster’ and I have to agree – it’s peppered with titillating scenes that seem completely plausible and appropriate, considering the characters and setting.

Underneath it’s external layer of glamour, fashion, sex and Machiavellian plotting – Guilty Pleasures has well developed characters that although their lifestyles are incomprehensible, their more human characteristics make you care about their fate. I even found myself cheering for Cassandra, the tough but flawed fashion magazine editor who believes with her style and connections, she’s the rightful heir to the family Luxury Goods business – rather than her ‘off the rack’ Management Consultant cousin Emma.

Guilty Pleasures is a fun, easy read that’s perfect for your next weekend away, international flight or a week of escapism on the train while you commute. Wherever you read it though, just remember if there’s people near by – they may be wondering what you’re grinning about. Guilty Pleasures by Tasmina Perry is the most appropriately named book this year.

Available from all good bookstores from July 1st.

Gorgeously Green – The Green Bible for Stylish Ladies

Gorgeous Green BookGorgeously Green by Sophie Uliano is Out Now!

Published by Harper Collins RRP $26.95

Sustainable, Green, Conscious & Gorgeous – Sophie’s new book Gorgeously Green will show you how to live the green life without having to sacrifice style.

Gorgeously Green covers everything from Fitness to Shopping & Travel, with loads of great information to help you make better choices for yourself & Mother Earth. Julia Roberts has written the Introduction & Sophie appeared on the Oprah show on Earth Day back in April so expect to be hearing quite a bit about this fabulous new book.

Gorgeous Things thinks Gorgeously Green is the most important book to be published this year…well, maybe the new Tim Winton is kind of important too but Gorgeously Green is important is the ‘saving the planet’ kind of way whereas Tim Winton is important in the ‘being very clever with words’ kind of way. Sorry ladies…having a bit of a Bridget Jones moment. You know what we mean.

3 HOT Winter Beauty Tips

Staying Gorgeous during the colder months is easy with our Hot Winter Beauty Tips.

  1. Hands will be Colder & Drier as your body heat will be drawn to your trunk to maintain your core tempreture. Be sure to take good care of your hands by wearing gloves to wash dishes & clean your home. Keep a good Moisturiser in your Handbag and next to the Sink.
  2. Watch the Tempreture & Duration of your Shower or Bath. It’s easy in the colder months to stay in longer & crank the hot water but this will lead to your skin drying out quickly. Nobody wants those yucky dry patches on their shins! So gross.
  3. Eat Your Spinach! No complaining, I wont hear it! It was good enough to keep Popeye in tip top shape & being jam packed with Vitamins it’ll do wonders for you too! Believe me, Radiant Beauty comes from the inside so fry up some Garlic & a pound of Spinach and prepare to look HOT!

Just while we’re on the subject of eating to look HOT! I’ve just finished a rather fabulous book called How To Eat Like a Hot Chick by Jodi Lipper & Cerina Vincent.

Now I must warn you, there’s some rather colourful language used to describe the Author’s attitude to Food & Dieting but don’t let that get in your way. You’ll be far too busy agreeing with & laughing at their marvellous descriptions of why we women do what we do when it comes to food, self esteem, guilt & love. There are some very Empowering Steps involved in eating like a Hot Chick, it’s all about Self Esteem & Being Kind to Yourself…and Spinach. Eat your Spinach ladies, it’s the gateway to feeling fabulous!

How To Eat Like a Hot Chick is published by Harper Collins & will cost you $24.95 at any good bookshop.
