Sass Magazine talks to Lesley-Ann Trow about Gorgeous Things

Written by Jennifer Jennings for Sass Magazine October 2007 edition

“I started Gorgeous Things last September. It’s great fun to take something you love and share it. All the natural skincare and chemical-free cleaning products are Australian, and the Fairtrade teas and coffees are mainly from India. My skincare guy is a naturopath and the Cinderella cleaning products are from a lady on the Gold Coast.

When I was younger I had really bad eczema but not any more – my skin is great. If you go to the doctors, they’ll give you a cream but then you use chemicals, so Gorgeous Things provides the whole solution. I’m trying to revolutionise the whole Avon party idea. I’m a 50s housewife, but updated! My style is a little retro but that seems to be coming back into fashion – you can be a domestic goddess but still do everything else. The parties show people how to use natural products so, for example, we’ll do a natural skin scrub at the start to soften skin. It shows people that natural works. We have trivia games and just have fun. People really enjoy it and go ga-ga for the products. I talk a bit about social responsibility too – you get your retail therapy and you’re helping a community with these products.

I’m very stringent about effectivenessGorgeous Things is a bit like that girlfriend who always tells you what’s good. We’re about to launch online shopping through the website and there’s also a blog. I get so excited when I get feedback from people.”
